IPL: Lewis’s explosive batting flies Chennai, Lucknow’s resounding victory

Lucknow Super Giants clinched their first victory in the IPL T20 cricket tournament with the help of an explosive innings played by Evin Lewis after a banging start by Lokesh Rahul and Quinton Decock. In the high scoring match played against Chennai Super Kings in IPL-2022 on Thursday, Lucknow team recorded a resounding victory by six wickets. This is Lucknow’s first victory in the IPL. Lucknow won the toss and elected to bat first. Robin Uthappa’s half-century and Shivam Dubey’s aggressive batting helped Chennai reach 210 for seven in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Lucknow won the match by 211 runs in 19.3 overs. Evin Lewis and Quinton Decock scored superb half-centuries. This is the second defeat of the champion Chennai team in the second match.

Lokesh Rahul and Quinton Decock got off to a flying start
The opening pair of skipper Lokesh Rahul and Quinton Decock gave the Lucknow team a tumultuous start as they reached the ground to reach the massive target of 211 runs. The duo bowled out the Chennai bowlers for 99 for the first wicket in 10.2 overs. However, Pretorius outscored the two batsmen and put Lucknow on the backfoot. Rahul was dismissed for 40 off 26 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. Decock hit 61 off 54 balls, including nine fours.

Evin Lewis took responsibility for the team’s victory after losing the wickets of Lokesh Rahul and Quinton Decock. He batted more aggressively than both the batsmen and led the team to victory. At the opposite end, he was accompanied by Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni. Lewis played an unbeaten innings of 55 off 23 balls with six fours and three sixes. Deepak Hooda (13) and Ayush (19) were unbeaten with two sixes. For Chennai, Dwayne Pretorius took two wickets and Tushar Deshpande and Dwayne Bravo took one wicket each.

Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and elected to bat first against Chennai Super Kings. Chennai had a good start but its star opener Rituraj Gaekwad failed. Robin Uthappa and Rituraj came in the opening over and the duo put up a 28-run partnership in 2.3 overs with Rituraj contributing just one run. Robin Uthappa started immediately by batting. He teamed up with Moin Ali to speed up the team’s run. Uthappa hit 50 off 27 balls with the help of eight fours and a six.

Taking advantage of a good start, Shim Dubey, Ambati Rayudu, captain Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni batted aggressively to take the team to over 200 runs. Shivam hit 49 off 30 balls with five fours and two sixes. Rayudu contributed 27 off 20 balls. Ravindra Jadeja hit 17 off nine balls with the help of three fours. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was unbeaten on 16 off six balls. He hit two fours and a six. For Lucknow, Avesh Khan, Andrew Tye and Ravi Bishnoi had two hits each.
